Savannah Rambles

Architecture walking tours of a unique American city

 Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long do the Rambles last?

Each Ramble, except the Grand Ramble, is designed to last 2 hours. Length of time may be extended by 15 or 20 minutes depending on number of questions asked, speed of travel, or client requests.

2. Do you talk about anything other than building styles?

YES! I use architecture as the basis to discuss not only why the buildings look the way they do but how they relate to the people and events that shaped Savannah's history. Nothing can give you an understanding of Savannah's cultural uniqueness like knowledge of her architecture. Other Savannah discussion topics may include, but are not limited to:

• Noted Citizens

• City planning

• Freemasons

• Ethnic Groups

(Jewish, African, Irish, etc.)

• Historic preservation

• and much more

3. Can I ask questions?

Questions are encouraged. This is your Ramble and I want you to get the most out of it. The more questions the better!

4. What should I wear?

Comfort is all important! Walking or athletic shoes are suggested on all Rambles. Savannah is an old city and uneven brick pavers, high heels should NOT be worn. If you are prone to attracting insects, the local sand gnats can be quite annoying at times, and lightweight shirt sleeves and long pants may be more appropriate for you than shorts.

5. What if it rains?

We ramble rain or shine!

6. Will you cancel the Ramble if only two people make reservations for that time slot?

NO! Once you make the reservation the Ramble is on unless you cancel it, even if there is only one person. In the event I have an emergency, I will always attempt to notify anyone with reservations at the earliest possible moment.

7. Is there plenty of parking nearby?

Parking is usually scarce. There are two city parking decks and one private deck within a block of Johnson Square. The most reliable tends to be the Ellis Square Parking Deck with entrance from Whitaker Street. Street parking is metered at $2/hour, but very tight by 9:00 am.

8. Should I bring a camera?

Absolutely! Savannah is extremely picturesque. Pictures are encouraged and your guide suggests allowing him to take at least one picture of your party so that everyone appears in at least one shot.

9. Can our dog come along?

Dogs are welcome guests on all Rambles. However, you must keep Fido on a leash at all times and you must also carry plastic waste bags to comply with city ordinances. There are several pet waste receptacles throughout the Landmark Historic District.
